Queensland’s Gold Coast is a diverse wonderland of theme parks, eccentric attractions, vibrant festivals and beautiful beaches. With the new tram system beginning service at the start of 2014 it will be easier than ever to travel between Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Southport and beyond. Starting from the quieter, more family oriented part of the Gold Coast this week, here’s some of the best of Broadbeach.
Gold Coast International Food, Wine and Music festival
Broadbeach, April 11 to 13
This festival encompasses the character of Broadbeach and serves you the culinary delights on offer, all while enjoying various musical talents. Read more about the Gold Coast International Food, Wine and Music festival and other culinary festivals around Australia here.
Gold Coast’s famous art and craft markets
Broadbeach, Coolangatta and Burleigh Heads beachfronts
For a unique beachfront market experience, take a stroll to the beachfront where you’ll find a variety of artists, products and shows. Since the event started 28 years ago it has been steadily growing now with over 150 stalls each showcasing a variety of original, hand made and professionally crafted products. You’ll also find natural health products, foods, flowers and even a clairvoyant.
Gold Coast Renaissance Faire
Visit Pratten Park at Broadbeach on May 3 and 4 and you’ll find yourself in the Elizabethan Era with all its hearty food and drink to feast on, theatre, music, traditional dances and merriment. Well, practically. Whether you’re interested in the renaissance period, want to challenge valiant swordsmen, or you simply enjoy marvelling those in dressing-up this is a cultural fair for the whole family.
For a night to remember, you must try Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant. This impish, well themed dinner theatre is unlike any other in Queensland. As you enter the theatre/ dining hall on the ‘ghost train,’ you will be ushered to your table by any manner of vampire or villain. You’re then treated to dinner and a show, but beware: This may not be for everyone- expect explicit language, crudeness and racy attire. If you’re a fan of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, chances are you’ll have a ball.
