Destination Inspiration, Top 5's

Get cultured at the Brisbane Powerhouse

Art exhibit

The Brisbane Powerhouse gets the award for the trendiest space for contemporary culture in Brisbane. Once a Power house in the truest sense of the word, the funky building is now home to an arts centre that hosts a range of visual art exhibits, comedy shows, theatre performances, and much more. There are also a couple of restaurants and bars where you can pause to really take the entire place in.

Located on the banks of the Brisbane River, and right next door to the picturesque grounds of New Farm Park, you’d be forgiven for spending an entire day just chilling here.

Be sure to take advantage of the free comedy acts every Friday night from 6pm.

Indulge in exotic food at the Eat Street Markets

Food markets

Perhaps the funkiest of food markets, the Eat Street Markets are THE place to go when you’re craving exotic international cuisine. Delectable street food is served up from trendy shipping container ‘stalls’ that line the pier at Northshore, Hamilton Wharf on the Brisbane River. Food is not the only thing on the menu with a range of boutique beer and wine stalls sharing in the mouth-watering fun. There’s a great atmosphere at the markets with live music jazzing things up as you stroll through the various stalls.

Let your taste buds guide you to the Eat Street Markets every Friday and Saturday night from 4-10pm and Sun 10am-3pm (winter only).

Walk or cycle South Bank

Southbank Brisbane

South Bank is arguably the heart and soul of Brisbane city. And exploring at a leisurely pace, either by foot or bike, is an absolute must. You could easily spend the entire day here exploring the parklands, drinking in the river views, and whiling away the hours at one of the many cafes and restaurants that line the pathways. You’ll be surprised just how relaxing an inner-city can be.

Shop till you drop

Shopping

Brisbane’s shopping scene has made a decent mark in the world of fashion in recent years. Boutique stores pepper the city streets and the many markets remain a firm favourite for those looking for unique treasures and bargain finds. The trendy streets of Fortitude Valley have a lot to offer, with Winn Lane and James Street making the list on Queensland Blog’s ‘Brisbane Shopping Guide: 6 places you can’t miss‘.

Wherever you choose to take your retail therapy, Brisbane’s shopping scene is sure to deliver the goods.
