5 hot travel destinations for 2016

ICELAND

We gushed about the beauty of Iceland in our post ‘5 must-do drives around the world’ where we named Ring Road as one of our must drive routes around the world. Our love affair with this untamed, out-of-this-world-beautiful destination doesn’t stop there; we’re naming it a must visit travel destination for 2016.

If you’ve never considered visiting Iceland you should add it to your travel wish list stat. Other travellers are, and the word is spreading fast.

You’ll see why Iceland is becoming so popular in this wanderlust inspiring article from Traveller.

BOTSWANA

Named by Lonely Planet as the #1 country to visit in 2016, Botswana is a sure bet for travellers looking for somewhere special to travel to next year.

Lonely Planet describes Botswana as ‘invigoratingly wild’, and we think that sums this immensely raw, naturally beautiful country to a T. Not only is it home to the wildlife-rich plains of gems like Chobe National Park, it’s also home to the incredible site that is the Okavango Delta, UNESCO’s 1,000th World Heritage Listed Site.

SAMOA

Samoa is consistently named as one of the most underrated island destinations in the Pacific, and we couldn’t agree more.

Samoa has so much to offer travellers, from pristine beaches, beautiful coastal hikes, the stunning naturally formed swimming hole To Sua Ocean Trench, waterfalls, glistening lagoons, and virtually no crowds to contend with… need we say more?

Visit this island gem if you’re searching for an island holiday in the South Pacific of several decades ago.

AUSTRALIA

Who says we have to travel overseas to get in an epic holiday in 2016? Conde Nast Traveler magazine has named our very own ‘land down under’ as THE ‘top destination of 2016’.

With so much beauty and diversity here – think the tropical paradise of the Whitsunday islands and the arid desert of the Red Centre – you could traipse Australia from top to bottom, east to west, for the entire 2016 and never get bored.

HAWAII

Hawaii was listed in Lonely Planet’s ‘Top 10 Regions’ for 2016, coming in at #7. Lonely Planet have noted 2016 as a year for ‘lovers of food, history, and adventure’ to travel to these verdant isles.

Forget Waikiki and venture further afield to the lesser known and oft underrated beauties such as the volcanic coast of the Big Island where bone-white beaches lay deserted (unless turtles sunbathing on the sand count), Kauai’s lush waterfall-clad interior, and the beyond-this-world (literally) views from the world’s largest astronomical observatory atop Mauana Kea. Even the sleepy towns of Oahu’s north shore aren’t to be missed.
